As with all diseases, early diagnosis is the most important factor influencing treatment success in pulmonary diseases. At the Güven Hospital Department of Pulmonary Diseases, our mission is to utilize all modern medical resources effectively to achieve early diagnosis and enhance treatment outcomes.
In the Department of Pulmonary Diseases, we provide diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment for conditions such as lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, pneumonia, pleurisy, bronchiectasis, asthma, COPD, interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary embolism, respiratory failure, lung involvement of systemic diseases, tuberculosis (both pulmonary and extrapulmonary), sleep-related breathing disorders, and allergic diseases. Additionally, preoperative and pre-anesthetic pulmonary function evaluations are performed to assess lung capacity and surgical fitness.
Patients suspected of having lung cancer are evaluated by a multidisciplinary council consisting of pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine specialists, and radiologists to develop a comprehensive treatment and follow-up plan.
Diagnostic and procedural tests performed in the Pulmonary Diseases Department include:
- Pulmonary function tests (reversibility tests, bronchial provocation tests, helium diffusion test, peak expiratory flow monitoring)
- Bronchoscopy
- Arterial blood gas analysis
- Sleep studies (sleepiness questionnaires, overnight polysomnography, PAP titration)
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
- Patient education – management of chronic respiratory diseases and proper device usage
- Smoking cessation unit
- Allergy unit (skin testing, drug testing, food testing, drug desensitization, immunotherapy, and prevention methods)
The EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound) technique plays a key role in the early diagnosis of lung diseases and determining the most appropriate treatment approach. EBUS services are available at Güven Hospital.
